DAY 2 - LA MORNE PENINSULA

Nearby is La Morne, a national park and the site of a tragedy when a group of escaped slaves, fearing re-capture (unaware as they were, as the result of their solitude, that slavery had been abolished since their escape), hurled themselves from the rock.

It's now a UNESCO World Heritage Site

and the death of these (and many other) slaves is marked by a small monument and local art-works.

The weather is distinctly changeable: one minute the sun is peeking out, the next it's clouded over for a gentle shower.  None of it seems to disturb the local kite-surfers whom we watch as we lunch.

Creeping around the base of the promontory, we find little bays,

birds,

though the mynas are everywhere

Home for fish stew, washed down with local rum
