A SECOND DAY IN GEORGETOWN
Sunday in Georgetown so sadly the museums are all closed. A slow start then
before we leave our apartment
and move on to a hotel for the night in the centre with a nice balcony, giving us views (that's the catholic cathedral you can see through the trees) all the way down to the Stabroek market place (of which, more below)
So, time for a wander to see some of the architecture of Georgetown...
And, with excellent timing, arriving at the Stabroek at lunchtime (though even here was very quiet, which is just as well as this is notorious as the pickpocketing hub of the town!)
It's been the unofficial 'heart' of town since 1842 when the town Council formally recognised the makeshift market; it took a good while to build anything though: the market structure was designed and constructed in iron and steel by a Delaware company USA in 1880 (though it feels quite Victoriana to me)
