Swaziland [now eSwatini), Kruger and BLYDE RIVER CANYON - PT 3

The final couple of nights are west of Kruger as we head back towards Joburg, in what the Tourist Board likes to call the Panorama Region.  It's certainly full of natural beauties, centred around the Blyde River canyon (third biggest in the world after Grand Canyon and Fish River Canyon in Namibia). First stop, the Blyde River dam Next, the stunning Three Rondavels (named after the local, 'beehive' huts, usually with a thatched roof) Our overnight spot is one of those very rare creatures that actually lives up to the grand title that it's given itself: Panoramic Chalets, ...  Here's the view from the swimming pool Next morning, the Pinnacle, a 30m quartzite rock majestically erupting from its canyon floor Then God's Window and back to celebrate at our last night's site with an excellent steak supper, with papaya dessert Last day is 300km, primarily on motorways,...

Swaziland (now eSwatini), KRUGER and Blyde River Canyon - PT 2

The 'meat' of this trip is Kruger Park (2m hectares and, according to the latest Kruger census, estimated populations of  1,500 lion, 17,000 elephant, 48,000 buffalo and 1,000 leopards ).  There are 14 different public rest-camps (as well as all the private concessions), of which we'll stay at six as we travel around (xx miles in total). And the wildlife is not confined to the park: there's some inevitable invasion  of  the rest-camps by smaller animals (though luckily the electric fences keep out the hyena which regularly patrol the outer perimeter at BBQ o'clock!) And l astly, some idea of our sleeping accommodation at the rest-camps and the countryside...
